Review:

Myth:

This book was a lot heavier world-building than I’ve been reading lately, but in true Cassandra Clare style, the characters were so compelling that I barely noticed it. Castellane has so many facets, and there are so many unique interactions with neighboring kingdoms, but the characters lead you through all the details. Very low on the romance, things are teased for the future, but that is most certainly not the focus of this book.

Magic:

We’re in a world where magic was broken, for lack of a better term. So, don’t expect a lot in this first book, but it’s a fantasy series, so I think we can safely assume magic returns at some point.

Overall:

It wasn’t heart-pounding page-turning, but I found myself always eager to get back to it.
